No. WP-105 The Sword Is Drawn. The Navy Upholds It! Older than most of the other artists in this series, Kenyon Cox was born in 1856 in Ohio and was near the end of his life when WWI broke out in Europe. Cox studied art in Cincinnati and then at the Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts. In 1877, he moved to Paris to be where he believed the second Renaissance was taking place and was of course influenced by the great French artists of the day. Cox went on to become an important influence in Armerican art around the Turn of the Century. In this work he is using a statuesque style, but his other work was more in line with the Impressionists.
