Enlist in the Navy To Arms
Like most — or more likely all — of the artists and illustrators who created these wonderful posters, Milton Bancroft was a patriot as well as an artist. He would have enlisted himself if he hadn't been too old when war broke out. Instead he went to France to help the war effort in a civilian capacity working with the YMCA. His oldest son did join the Army. Bancroft was a serious student of art, and like several others, he also studied in Paris and ultimately became known for his impressionist landscapes and portraits.
